“If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”-John Dewey Education is at a turning point. Teachers are taking efforts to reform education by integrating technology into it. A 21st-century educator requires the students to engage, recognize their interests and create a self-learner attitude in their students. While most of the countries like US, China, UK, Singapore, Uruguay, Cuba etc use integrated technology extensively, few other countries do not have even an access to the internet. To weigh what technology actually does to the education system, a survey of more than 2,600 U.S. college students was taken. The result of the survey was concluded to have shown a positive impact on the students. 67% of students say study technology makes them feel better prepared for…

Olivia Wilde Made This Edward Sharpe Music Video Using an iPhone

Design
The band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros just released this music video for their new single “No Love Like Yours.” Here’s what’s neat about it: it was created by actress Olivia Wilde using just the iPhone 6S Plus. Assisted by Director of Photography Reed Morano (the cinematographer behind a host of HBO shows) and Second Director of Photography David Darg (the co-foudner of RYOT Media), Wilde decided to go with using the iPhone’s camera for 100% of the production. The iPhone may not have a very big sensor, but 4K was introduced in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. Some directors are incorporating it into their projects as a way to shoot certain scenes quickly and without having to deal with the headache of huge rigs and large productions.…

How to Build Social Media Into Your Sales Funnel

How to Build Social Media Into Your Sales Funnel

eCommerce
How great would it be if customers showed up in your store or on your website with a sandwich board on their shoulders, advertising their level of interest in what you have to offer. “I’m keen to buy now!” “I’m in research mode.” “I’m totally just browsing.” Well it might not be a sandwich board, but there are some ways get a good sense for this buyer intent. And the big question…

Photo Essay: The Longest Train in India

Photo Essay: The Longest Train in India

Design
If all journeys are teachers, it may well be that a journey to India is the greatest teacher of all. As Kurt Vonnegut said, “Bizarre travel plans are dancing lessons from God,” and it was in search of a new dance that I purchased a one-way ticket on the longest train in India. Timelapse video: Indian Railways train #15906, the Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express, travels 4,273km as it winds its way from the north-eastern corner of Assam to the southernmost tip of mainland India, an 85-hour journey which gives it the prestigious title of the longest train in India, by both time and distance. It departs Dibrugarh at 10:45pm on Saturday and arrives in Kanyakumari at around 11am Wednesday, three days and 4 nights. The first part of the journey is…

I Built a Fake Elevator for a Portrait Project

I Built a Fake Elevator for a Portrait Project

Design
My name is Dirk Hardy. I’m a 27-year-old Dutch photographer currently based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. For the past eighteen months, I worked on a personal project called Void. After having lived and worked in New York City for six months a few years back, I developed an obsession for the elevator. Not only is the elevator one of the most important inventions to make modern cities possible, what fascinates me most is the fact that elevators impose physical closeness with strangers and there’s no clear code of conduct for us to follow in order to avoid uncomfortable and awkward situations. The sooner the trip is over, the better. Did you know that New York City alone counts sixty thousand elevators? Together, these elevators make eleven billion trips a year,…

Here’s a Trick for Removing Noise in Photoshop While Keeping Details

Here’s a Trick for Removing Noise in Photoshop While Keeping Details

Design
Want to remove noise in a high ISO photo while preserving the details and textures in your shot? Here’s a simple photography and Photoshop technique that lets you easily do that. The above is a 3-minute video tutorial by travel photographer Jimmy McIntyre. To use the technique, you’ll need to shoot multiple shots of exactly the same scene with the same camera settings (McIntyre’s example uses 4 photos). Since the noise is randomly distributed in each of the photos, you can reduce the noise by figuring out average values between the shots. McIntyre stacks 4 exposures of the same scene, Auto-Aligns them, and then turns them into a Smart Object (Layer->Smart Objects->Convert to Smart Object). Once that’s done, all that’s left is to change the Stack Mode of that Smart…
